Our Tree

Staring out the window this morning at my favorite tree, I had a moment of clarity and inspiration. I have been reading in the Book of Mormon and am currently at Jacob 5, where it talks about the parable of the tree orchard.

The human race is kind of like a tree. We’re all leaves from that same tree. The base of that tree holds us all up. Our branches may be different but we all rely on the same source for nutrients and sustainability. If any one of the branches were to die, it could be cut off and thrown away and the tree would survive. However, if something were to happen to the base of the tree, we all die. As leaves, we pass with the seasons. We come and go with the passage of time but I don’t think that makes our roll any less significant. If there were a season where the leaves did not play their role, the tree could die.

We may only be here for but a season, and our Earth may be just one tree in our father in Heaven’s Orchard.

Let’s take care of our tree. We can do that by helping the other leaves around us. By making a difference on our branch. By easing one another’s burden so that our branch may be light. So that we can in turn, bear the weight of the fruit that our father desires from us. That fruit is Love!

As a leaf on the tree of life, what’s your role this day?
