Why I went on a mission response to a friend
Mormon missionaries;
They go around in pairs usually. As far as service as a missionary. It is not one but two years of service and it is not at all required. The age for young men to be able to serve is 19. And for young ladies it is 21. It is entirely voluntary except that the Mormon society or culture is that every young man that is found worthy aught to serve a full time mission. A lot of parents strongly encourage they're kids to go on missions. I've heard of Dads' Promising the kid to buy him a car if he goes on a mission. Those are the more annoying missionaries. The ones that are not there for the right reasons. I had several of those type of companions on my mission. They are annoying as F..K to deal with.
I need to give you a little back ground on me. I had been living on my own since I was about 16. I came from a broken home. When I was 20, I had a good job working as a teller at a bank. A car, TV, and all the toys a guy could want. But there was an emptiness inside me, a void that I could not fill. I tried filling it with partying, drinking, smoking dubie. Hanging out with all sorts of different crowds. I even tried doing nothing. But all of that could not quench the void that I felt inside. Some time went by and I don’t remember why but I started reading the book of Mormon. And I felt as though I had come out of the desert, from a long journey with no water, into an oasis and was drinking fresh, clean, cool water that was filling my soul to contentment. So I continued to read and feel enlightened. After having read the book of Mormon I felt a strong impression that I should serve a mission.
